Here we have discussions of supernovae from the point of view of their observational, particle astrophysics, and even biological impact. The first part of the talk is about the supernova bonanza that will be part of the coming Great Survey era in observational astronomy, and showing how this will give us new opportunities to measure cosmic supernovae and to understand the diffuse supernova neutrino background. The second part of the talk is about the the threat posed to the terrestrial biosphere by a near-Earth supernova, and the evidence that a nearby event occured ~2-3 Myr ago.
