Gate Valves are another device found all over the beamline. Each section has some amount of these vacuum pieces. Usually made of metal in order to withstand the many extreme conditions they face like radiation and high vacuum, gate valves are commonly used to separate sections of the beamline. With these shut, beamline areas can then be vented and have maintenance work done.
